Across the country students are taking active roles in not only promoting the outdoors through collegiate chapters such as Ducks Unlimited and the National Wild Turkey Federation, but they are also finding other ways to be involved in the community. On Feb. 20 I was “freezin’ for a reason” in the Russellville Polar Plunge. This event was hosted at Lake Dardanelle State Park on Saturday to raise money for Special Olympics Arkansas. SOAR is part of the world’s largest year-round program of athletic training and Olympic style competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The University’s Agriculture Department has a team of 17 students and faculty members who are still accepting donations through FirstGiving to benefit the cause. We had a great time plunging into the freezing cold water of Lake Dardanelle along with other members from the community. Please follow the link to see the teams personal profiles and help us reach our goals by making a donation to Special Olympics Arkansas!
